Sault Saint Marie and Wawa, Ontario, Canada

It's Friday, July 3, 2020 and I woke up to yet another beautiful day. We spent the night in Wawa at the
Wawa Resort and Campground right off Highway 17. You can find them at Wawa Resort and Campground

We left Manitoulin Island on Tuesday late afternoon after visiting with my cousin Bob. As mentioned on our YouTube Video (tab to the left of this blog), I hadn't been on the Island for 40 years, nor had I seen Bob for 25 when he and Aunt Betty came to my father's funeral in Tillsonburg. Our visit was truly emotional. I must admit I was really excited for my visit, but I wasn't expecting all the emotions that came with it.

We spent a couple of hours pouring over photos and walking through the graveyard. Many of my Caddel relatives have been buried there all the way back to the early 1800's. Even just that visit stirred up a lot of love and sadness that was simply just too overwhelming for me I guess. Unfortunately, Bob was unaware that my sister, Bunnie, had passed away and the news hurt him terribly. I know he always liked her; there was a 25 year age difference, but they found things in common I suppose.

Later that night, I really took stock of the whole situation. I feel a bit of shame for not paying more attention to my extended family on both sides. I think moving to Toronto at such a young age for my career and then raising our family and developing new relationships just simply monopolized my time. But, now that I'm older, I wish I would have taken the time to stay in contact with my extended relatives. I need to have those connections for my soul.

Anyway, on a lighter note, we are having a good time so far figuring out our routines together. We've passed through Sault Ste Marie and are currently in Wawa. If you are heading North, please consider visiting these spots. We have a beautiful province! Some of the adventures will be Covid affected; but you'll figure it out. Stay safe along your way and stop at all the lookouts!

Before leaving this week, I'd like to implore you to donate to Camp Kirk. A past student, Erin, has attended this very special camp for years. They provide additional support to their campers and they recently hosted their virtual showcase (Erin is at minute 44). Here is the link: www.campkirk.com/live

Enjoy your day.
